Anything that negatively affects the access to health care negatively affects health care outcomes. Government and business must refrain from interfering between a woman, her doctor and her faith.

When I say "greatly increase" I am trying to convey my priorities, not break the bank. The answer is not just throwing money at a problem. We need to look for and encourage innovation in every program we fund, using our money more intelligently. The state legislature has been fiscally irresponsible, particularly in its prioritization of available revenue. Slashing funds to education drives new business investment away. Showering private prisons with cash while starving our schools are the wrong priorities.
Our current tax code is a mess, unfairly draining the middle class, while being unnecessarily complicated. Let?s create a nonpartisan panel of economists, accountants, business professionals, and members of the public. By designing a new code that is simple, fair and progressive we can attract more business to our state. While the use of credits is an appropriate way to help businesses get established, we need to evaluate the long-term consequences of these special deals. If we wish to incentivize an industry, the credit should be limited to five years, and then phased out over the following five years.

a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?

Yes 1) Individual
Yes 2) Political Action Committee
Yes 3) Corporate
Yes 4) Political Party
Yes b) Should candidates for state office be encouraged to meet voluntary spending limits?
Yes c) Do you support requiring full and timely disclosure of campaign finance information?
Yes d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No f) Should Arizona assert sovereignty over federal lands within its borders?
When they campaigned on "jobs, jobs, jobs" it appears the GOP was referring only to jobs for lawyers. This idea of state sovereignty is yet another example of our state legislature wasting our money on legislation that will only result in enriching attorneys. There is way too much money in politics, and it threatens our democracy. Reasonable limits should be applied.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders, such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
Yes c) Do you support decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana?
d) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No e) Should a minor who sends sexually-explicit or nude photos by cell phone face criminal charges?
No f) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
g) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
Yes b) Do you support increased state funding for job-training programs that re-train displaced workers?
Yes c) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
Yes d) Do you support providing financial incentives to the private sector for the purpose of job creation?
Yes e) Do you support increased spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
Yes f) Do you support providing direct financial assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure?
Programs must be smart and innovative - we need to give people a hand up, not a hand out. This means designing programs that move people from assistance to productivity. Regulations should be continuously reviewed and streamlined, government needs to be "customer focused" (customer means businesses and individuals)
a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?
Yes b) Do you support a merit pay system for teachers?
Yes c) Is the tenure process for public school teachers producing effective teachers?
No d) Should parents be allowed to use vouchers to send their children to any school?
Yes e) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes f) Do you support the state government providing college students with financial aid?
Yes g) Should illegal immigrants who graduate from Arizona high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Strong traditional public education is the backbone of growing a strong economy. Human capital is the most important asset in any business, and a the availability of a well educated workforce is critical to Arizona's future. The most important metric is results, not spending per student and restoration of funding must be focused on results.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of alternative energy?
No b) Do you support state funding for the development of traditional domestic energy sources (e.g. coal, natural gas, oil)?
Yes c) Do you support state funding for improvements to Arizona's energy infrastructure?
Yes d) Do you support state funding for open space preservation?
Yes e) Do you support enacting environmental regulations aimed at reducing the effects of climate change?
Arizona should not be trailing New Jersey in solar energy, or be looking to invest in expensive Nuclear plants over alternative sources. Investing in these areas now gives us the potential to have the cheapest energy costs in the nation, which gives us a huge advantage in attracting business. An energy policy that is "all of the above" is the most sensible one for both our state and the nation.
Yes a) Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should citizens be allowed to carry concealed guns?
No d) Should a license be required for gun possession?
While I strongly support the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership, I believe we all need to take very seriously the opinion of law enforcement on issues of public safety. Let's keep our gun laws reasonable and responsible, such as requiring training prior to licensing a gun owner.
Yes a) Do you support a universally-accessible, publicly-administered health insurance option?
Yes b) Do you support expanding access to health care through commercial health insurance reform?
No c) Do you support interstate health insurance compacts?
Yes d) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes e) Do you support expanding Medicaid in Arizona in compliance with the Affordable Care Act?
No f) Do you support monetary limits on damages that can be collected in malpractice lawsuits?
Yes g) Do you support allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes?
A smart investment will save us all money by keeping our citizens healthy by allowing them to seek lower cost options rather than using state-funded emergency rooms for care. Additionally, our economy is injured by the loss of productivity when people miss work. Studies show that the expansion of Medicaid actually saves us money. The more well care people receive, the less high priced care is needed. Since we all pay for health care costs, in part through higher rates to us to cover unreimbursed care, we all benefit.
No a) Should marriage only be between one man and one woman?
Yes b) Should same-sex couples be allowed to form civil unions?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Arizona's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes d) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Arizona's anti-discrimination laws?
We are all created equal, the state should not tell people who they can love or penalize them by restricting their rights when they do.
First and foremost refocus our resources in areas that build our state for the long term - education and infrastructure. Find funds to build the most innovative and low cost health care system in the nation. Make investments wisely, focus on results. Repeal legislation that interferes with people's rights to make their own health care decisions. Get our state focused on building for a positive future.
